An email I received from World Vision:

'Dear Supporter,

Latest news reports point to the escalating hostilities between Israel and Gaza with frequent airstrikes and ongoing tank shelling in retaliation to rockets fired from Gaza. After weeks of turmoil and bloodshed, the current death toll as of 31 July is at 1,373 people, of whom 18% are children, and over 8,260 injured.

Some children involved in World Vision programmes have been killed and injured in Gaza as a result of the ongoing violence. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), at least303,000 traumatised children in Gaza are in need of psychosocial support. Targeting mainly civilian houses,9,765 homes have been destroyed and 250,000 peopleare in need of shelter related assistance. Gaza hospitals are reporting a dire shortage of medicine and equipment, particularly for trauma injuries. Significant losses to agriculture infrastructure and other sources of livelihoods and income further impact both the short and long term future of Gaza residents.

Currently, an estimated 1.8 million people have reduced or no regular access to food, water and sanitation, as they are confined to their homes. The overall situation is expected to deteriorate further.

 

World Vision’s Commitment to Gaza

World Vision is implementing an emergency response to provide assistance to all registered children and their families with Psychological First Aid (PFA) and the most vulnerable households with food parcels and hygiene kits. Local hospitals located within the Area Development Programme (ADP) geographical areas will receive medical supplies. Two phases of emergency assistance will provide the following:

• A safe place for 2,400 children at 12 Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) where their psychological needs are met

• Basic medicines, equipment and medical disposables at selected health facilities

• Psycho-Social Support (PSS) and PFA activities to reduce distress among 7,200 children and 16,000 mothers

• 2,500 food parcels in Gaza Zonal Development Area

• 2,500 hygienic kits to the most deprived and poorest of people in Gaza Zonal Development Area'

Seeing this picture alone brought tears to my eyes.. Let's give to these poor and innocent children 

And the importance of psychological needs.. Ah gonna study harder
