Three Keys to Answered Prayer

Psalm 143:11–12
For the sake of Thy name, O LORD, revive me. In Thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble. And in Thy lovingkindness cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul, for I am Thy servant. NASB

That inspired prayer of the psalmist gives us three beautiful reasons for believing that God will answer our prayer. Three reasons that are independent of some particular situation or circumstance or any emotion that we may feel.

The first reason is: “for the sake of Thy name.” We pray to the Lord in the name of Jesus and for the sake of that name, God answers. That’s the first reason.

The second reason is: “in Thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.” We are not appealing to God on the basis of our righteousness but on the basis of His righteousness, received by faith through Jesus.

And the third reason is: “in Thy lovingkindness cut off my enemies.” That word translated lovingkindness really means, “God’s covenant-keeping faithfulness.” So God will keep His covenant in His faithfulness. Even at times when we may feel unfaithful and unworthy, God’s covenant-keeping faithfulness never changes.

So there are three reasons: for the sake of His name, for the sake of His righteousness and because He’s faithful to keep His covenant. Don’t let the enemy beat you down, don’t let him get you on the ground of your righteousness because that will not support you. But come to God on that basis: the name, the righteousness, the covenant-keeping faithfulness of the Lord

Sometimes I just feel so unworthy of God, so unworthy to have Him listen when I pray.. But one thing I'm utterly grateful for is how He spoke to me through the book "Unmerited Favour".

Tbh, it's a book which I won't even bother browsing through if my classmate did not "lend it to me" due to an absolute lack of interest.. I guess it's sth that The Lord wants me to have a deeper understanding of, or rather, a revelation to my spirit - His grace. 

I believe we need to meet God's conditions to be right with Him. For instance, conditions to live on God's hill are clearly written in Psalm 15, a personal favourite. However, during times when I seem to fail God in the same area, it feels as though I'm taking His grace for granted and the distance created is so.. uncomfortable. 

But I wanna say that when we repent and come to Him on the basis of His grace, God reveals Himself and He is so gentle. Once, I could almost feel His hands, cupped around my heart.. Perhaps it might be similar to the "strange warmth" John Wesley felt. 

"It's not the law of religion nor the principles of morality that define our highways and pathways to God; only by the Grace of God are we led and drawn, to God. It is His grace that conquers a multitude of flaws and in that grace, there is only favor. Favor is not achieved; favor is received."
